Muddy Waters
Paul's take:
This weekend we went to Muddy Waters in MPLS. We walked in and pushed the velvet drape aside to reveal the pretty crowded restaurant. The very colorful hostess sat us at a table in the corner and I sat looking into the restaurant. This place is very interesting to people watch, especially the staff. They were all tattooed, pierced, and dyed with equally interesting punk/metal clothing. I enjoyed seeing the individualism and uniqueness of the people and the place.
Our waitress was at our table in no time and I had a hot cup of coffee in front of me pretty quick. After looking over the menu I decided to go with the breakfast sandwich again. This one is an English muffin , sunny side up egg, sausage, bacon, cheddar, tomato, lettuce and ancho hollandaise. It was really quite awesome.
Like I said both Jeanne and myself are chefs and we notice a lot of things in a restaurant. I noticed the crew all were working together and staying on top of their game. The hostess didn't just seat people and that's it, she was also scanning the room to see if she can do anything to help the customers and the wait staff and she sprang into action more then a few times.
This place had a fun vibe and professional staff plus, the food is really pretty great. I don't think some of my older (stuffier) relatives would appreciate the very colorful and grittier staff but, I love that shit.
I definitely recommend this place.

Jeanne's Take:
I'd been to Muddy Waters twice before; once to check out their little bakery area and get a coffee and once to apply for said baker position. Obviously I didn't get the baker job, but I do remember enjoying the coffee and the pastry.
We arrived after noon since we slept in way too late. The restaurant was packed with people, all enjoying breakfast/brunch and many of them sipping on Bloody Marys or Mimosas. Since we don't drink we opted for coffee. I got my usual cold press and Paul got a regular drip coffee. It was actually pretty good. When Paul's first cup was empty we tried getting our server's attention but she was busy, but the super awesome hostess came over to see what we needed and she took care of it. I liked that.
Our waitress was pretty attentive when we arrived but we were taking a bit longer to order as we both hadn't seen the menu before. When we decided what we wanted I ordered the breakfast burrito, as I am a sucker for a good one.
This guy was full of rice, spicy beans, pulled pork, scrambled eggs, potatoes, a salsa and covered in shoestring potatoes and a spicy and a ancho aioli. I'm not a big fan of spice, especially in my breakfast, but this sauce was not overwhelming. It was seriously delicious. It was grilled ever so slightly so the tortilla wasn't hard, crunchy, or otherwise hard to cut into.
I will definitely go back to Muddy Waters for food. Maybe take advantage of their happy hour some day. I highly recommend it.
